Strength for Autism 2018

April 7, 2018 @ 12:00 pm - 5:00 pm

***Late fee kicks in Friday 3/23 at midnight***

A couple guys named Dustin and Paul met a few years ago via heavy lifting. Dustin hated Paul’s evil strongman implements, and Paul said Dustin was a ginger with no soul. Despite these differences they had one big thing in common: they both had autistic children in their lives. So, in 2016 Dustin said, “hey you dumb jerk, why don’t we put on a charity meet for autism?”. Paul replied “good idea you big dork”, and thus Strength for Autism was born. Join us on 4/7/18 and let’s make a difference.

A couple of autism dads present:

Hercules Hold

  • Athletes will hold as long as possible; longest time wins.
  • No grip aids allowed.

Max Axle Press

  • Athlete must wait for down command.
  • To receive down command, knees must be locked; feet stationary, not staggered, and within shoulder width; hips extended; upright posture; elbows locked; implement must be motionless to demonstrate control. Pressing with a “layback” technique is fine, however posture must be upright at lockout to receive the down command.
  • Dropping the implement will result in a “no lift” call. Object must be controlled to the ground.
  • Sleeves, one belt, and wrist wraps are legal.

Progressive Axle Deadlift (18in)

  • 60sec
  • Most reps wins. Each rep becomes heavier.
  • Must wait for “lift” and “down” commands on each rep
  • Dropping bar results in “no lift”

Medley

  • 60 sec
  • Fastest time to complete wins. If not finished you will be credited for the items you did finish via split timing
  • Implements will be (in order): Mouser Block, Keg, Keg
  • 40ft course
  • Objects will be deposited on a crash pad under control. If you hurl an implement and it goes out of control you will be required to come back and reset the implement before proceeding.
  • No sticky substances. None. No, not even that. Not that either. I don’t care if it’s legal in that comp.

Fire Truck Pull

  • 60sec
  • Fastest time wins. Anyone that doesn’t finish will be credited with distance.
  • Hoping to allow every class to use some sort of fire truck.
  • Everyone will use the same harness. Please do not pester me about using your own harness. I won’t budge. In 8 years, probably a dozen plus contests, and countless training sessions with 110 pound ladies all the way up to 400+lb men, no one has ever “come out” of the harness in mid-pull. The only way to accomplish that would be to literally stop pulling and move backward to create slack while letting your arms hang down to the side and slumping your shoulders. If you do that, you didn’t want to win anyway.
  • Hand rope will be used

General Equipment Rules

  • Elbow sleeves & knee sleeves (buckling mechanisms and straps must not be tightened), a single belt, and wrist wraps are legal.
  • No knee wraps, deadlift suits, or nuclear powered Iron Man style robotics.

General Rules/Usual Mouser Stuff

  • In the event of a tie in the final standings, 1st place finishes will decide the winner. If there is still a tie, then 2nd place finishes will be the determinant, and so on. If a tie cannot be broken this way, athletes will compete head to head in a tie breaker event.
  • Sportsmanship is expected and required. This is the greatest sport in the world, let’s keep it that way.
  • There will be a pre-event prayer. No one is expected to participate, so please do not feel obligated. All we ask is to be respectful of those that do or do not wish to participate.
  • This is a drug free contest. If you are juiced feel free to come cheer on your buddies but please do not bother to sign up.
  • If you have a question, please ask! I would rather take a minute to clarify something than to see someone have a poor showing due to a misunderstanding.
  • Charity of choice will be announced – keep an eye on mouserpower.com
