Strength for Autism

April 22, 2017 @ 12:00 pm - 5:00 pm

A couple guys named Dustin and Paul met a few years ago via heavy lifting. Dustin hated Paul’s evil strongman implements, and Paul said Dustin was a ginger with no soul. Despite these differences they had one big thing in common: they both had autistic children in their lives. So, in 2016 Dustin said, “hey you dumb jerk, why don’t we put on a charity meet for autism?”. Paul replied “good idea you big dork”, and thus Strength for Autism was born. Join us on 4/22/17 and let’s make a difference.

A couple of autism dads present:

Max DB

  • 30sec to produce a good lift
  • Must wait for down signal
  • In order to get a down signal, feet must be even, not staggered, within shoulder width, and not moving. Elbow must be locked and DB must be steadied. TORSO MUST BE UPRIGHT. If you bend sideways when you do this, you must stand back up erect before a down signal will be given. Legs must extended, knees locked.
  • Ladies will use the 10″ Bartos Big Top Dumbbell (regular bells until the empty weight is reached). Men will use the 12″ version once the weight reaches 140, and a “standard” circus bell until then.
  • 10 pound jumps available for women, 20 pounds jumps for men.
  • Last man standing, Wessels rule. This means once you miss you’re out. You may pass or attempt any given weight, but if you fail to produce a good lift within 30sec, you are finished with this event.
  • Must submit next attempt to score keeper within 60sec after a lift.

Loading Medley

  • 4 objects (2 kegs and 2 Mouser Blocks) will be carried in order from the starting line and deposited on a crash mat.
  • Distance for each object will be roughly 30ft.
  • 75sec time limit

Arm Over Arm Pull

  • 60 sec
  • Seated 40-50ft pull with feet braced, prowler style sled to be used
  • Stay tuned to this website for more details

Deadlift for Reps

  • 60sec
  • Must wait for down command on each rep
  • To receive a down command, knees must be locked, hips extended, & shoulders back.
  • Touch and go is fine, but please do not slam the bar. Please respect the equipment and venue.
  • Straps and belt are fine, but no suits. No bare feet, socks and/or shoes required.
  • Hands must stay on bar all the way to the ground. Any rep in which the bar is dropped will not be counted.

Sandbag Toss

  • 7 bags of increasing weight must be thrown in order over a 14ft bar.
  • If a bag does not successfully clear the rope, any successive throws will not count until that bag has been retrieved and successfully tossed over the bar.
  • Bags range from ~15lbs – 50lbs
  • Time limit 60sec

General Equipment Rules

  • Elbow sleeves & knee sleeves (buckling mechanisms and straps must not be tightened), a single belt, and wrist wraps are legal.
  • No knee wraps, deadlift suits, or nuclear powered Iron Man style robotics.

General Rules/Usual Mouser Stuff

  • In the event of a tie in the final standings, 1st place finishes will decide the winner. If there is still a tie, then 2nd place finishes will be the determinant, and so on. If a tie cannot be broken this way, athletes will compete head to head in one final Tug of War match to determine the winner.
  • Sportsmanship is expected and required. This is the greatest sport in the world, let’s keep it that way.
  • There will be a pre-event prayer. No one is expected to participate, so please do not feel obligated. All we ask is to be respectful of those that do or do not wish to participate.
  • This is a drug free contest. If you are juiced feel free to come cheer on your buddies but please do not bother to sign up.
  • If you have a question, please ask! I would rather take a minute to clarify something than to see someone have a poor showing due to a misunderstanding.
  • Charity of choice will be announced – keep an eye on this site!
